Dawn Veal

13-07 DAWN SWOHG PICTUREA Registered General Nurse and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, Dawn has worked in North Devon as an Occupational Health Nurse/Advisor since 2004.

Dawn is passionate about access to health education to reduce risk of unnecessary ill health and feels education and support in the workplace offers both employer and employee opportunities to improve health whilst also improving attendance and performance.

Dawn trained in London in the 1980’s having spent two years working with Learning disabilities prior to commencing her General training. Having completed her training Dawn worked in rehabilitation medicine,   acute medical wards and A & E and palliative care.   Dawn started work in Occupational Health by accident in 1994 when her children were young. She was so inspired by the role she has never looked back.

Dawn undertook her OH degree at  Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and has a broad range of experience working for companies such as British airways, British Gas, Laing construction, Costain construction, 3 Mobiles, GEC, Pharma and food manufacturing. Now working for as an independent OHA to local SME’s in the South West.

Dawn has been a member of the South West OH Nurses Group since 2010, and has also set up Study days twice a year in Exeter for other OHA’s since 2013 to support ongoing education in Occupational Health.

A mother to 3 children, her interests include FEI carriage driving, reading and travel as well as humanitarian work in Kosovo since 1996 driving lorries of aid to people identified as at risk. In 2015 Dawn went on a education programme to South Africa to improve health education in remote areas.
