Catherine Wood – Occupational Health Nurse Advisor

A Registered General Nurse and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, Catherine has worked in Somerset as an occupational health nurse/advisor since 2002.

Catherine commenced her nurse training in Cornwall in 1986 and worked on a medical ward prior to training as a Midwife. She practiced as a Midwife for several years before taking a career break to have children. Returning to work as a practice nurse on an RAF base in Scotland, she was first introduced to the role of an occupational health nurse.

Catherine undertook her OH degree at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and completed her qualification in 2004. She has a broad range of experience in variety of organisational settings including the Ministry of Defence, public sector, manufacturing and food production. For the past 3 years Catherine has been employed by an Independent Occupational Health Provider working in the Aerospace Industry.

Catherine has been a member of the South West OH Nurses Group since moving to Somerset, and has undertaken an active role on the committee as Secretary 2009 – 2011 and is presently the group Chairperson. She is currently working towards the Practice Teacher qualification, so that she is able to mentor students undertaking their Specialist Practitioner (OH) degree.

Married with 3 children, her interests include cycling and walking with most weekends occupied as a touch line parent supporting her sons and daughter on the sports field.
